This page shows how someone opts in to the Gather the Event text line, and exactly what we send back.

The program

Gather the Event guest uploads. It is for guests at a gathering who want the gathering’s upload link on their phone. A guest texts the gathering’s code to our toll-free number and gets one reply with the link. When photo ingest by message is active, a guest can also send photos into the same conversation, by RCS if our RCS line is active and their phone supports it or otherwise by MMS, and we reply once to confirm they arrived. Apart from HELP and STOP replies, nothing else is sent.

How someone opts in

The host prints a table card for the gathering. Under the QR code it says “Or text SAMPLE1 to (877) 269-6117”, followed by the message and data rate, STOP, HELP and terms disclosure. Each gathering has its own code, which is the keyword. Texting the code is the request: there is no list and no subscription.

The message flow

  1. Guest texts: SAMPLE1 to (877) 269-6117
  2. Gather the Event replies:
    Gather the Event: here's your upload link for Sample Wedding: https://gathertheevent.com/g/SAMPLE1 Msg&data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Terms: gathertheevent.com/terms Privacy: gathertheevent.com/privacy
  3. When photo ingest by message is active, the guest may send photos in the same conversation (usually at higher quality over RCS than over MMS, which carriers compress). Gather the Event replies:
    Gather the Event: got your 3 photos for Sample Wedding. They're uploaded. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.
  4. Every message we send is a single reply to a message the guest just sent. We never text a number that did not text us first, and hosts cannot make us text anyone.

STOP and HELP

  • HELP reply:
    Gather the Event: upload photos to a gathering from its link. Help: support@gathertheevent.com. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.
  • STOP reply:
    You're unsubscribed from Gather the Event and won't get more texts. Reply START to resubscribe.

Frequency and cost

At most one reply to each message a guest sends, and none after they reply STOP (apart from the one message confirming it). These are not marketing messages. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of any purchase, and a guest can use the gathering’s web link instead.
